Those Who Bring The Torture: Those who bring the torture

22/10/07  ||  Lord K Philipson

I’ve said it before… Sometimes you get an album to review that you actually have little-to-nothing to say about after hearing it… This is another one for that category. Rogga Johansson, a quite fantastic growler, and a bandwhore of gigantic proportions, is back with yet another new “band”. This, the millionth project of his in the last 2 weeks is better than most of the stuff he’s done in the past. But that’s not really saying much, is it? Fuck knows that with whatever he’s been doing with his 374657 other bands, the vocals were always the highlight of them all since the music wasn’t much to go apeballs over. I always thought it sounded quite rushed, boring and weak.

TWBTT sounds slightly more interesting, though it really isn’t when you think about it. It’s the same rough death metal that we have grown accustomed to when it comes to this fucker, only this time it actually makes me nod my head more often than not. I guess when he’s fired up yet another 2 million bands, I might actually take a great liking in what he does. That’s not the point just yet.

It’s filthy, it’s got its fair share of old school Swedish death metal (think some early Grave, though not even close to as good), there’s some heavier tunes thrown in together with some nice blasty ones, and a bunch of Napalm Death-esque parts added for good measure. On top of that we have the killer throat of Rogga. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing out of the ordinary and nothing special whatsoever. But I like it in some ways.

There’s not too much to say, as mentioned, about this band/project except for it being an ok offering on their part. It won’t do any fucken impression in the scene whatsoever, and I seriously don’t think the guys give much of a fuck either. Seems like they are all content with playing this shit and just leave it at that.

So, if you haven’t gotten yer dose of dirty death metal fulfilled lately, TWBTT is as good a start as any. One thing that lowers the score though is the fact that there are way too many songs on this album, eventually making me lose my focus as it just drags on and on. Nonetheless it’s a decent death metal effort with the few highlights being overpowered by too many not-so-impressive tunes. So, nothing’s different after all, Rogga’s vocals are still the gem here.

5 out of 10 cool song titles.
